St Mary’s football team triumphant!

A great afternoon of football saw St Mary’s win the Reading School Games Football Tournament 2017.  St Mary’s got off to a fantastic start beating Caversham Park 5-0 with goals from Szymon, Tiago and a fantastic hat trick from Zack.

Our second game was a hard match against Emmer Green.   Although we had all of the chances, we were unable to break the deadlock and drew 0-0.

Our final group game was against our toughest opponents yet, Whitley Park, a game with end to end action ended in a 0-0 draw as well.

Next was the quarter finals, after topping our group we played Park Lane with grit and some good goalkeeping from Samuel.  After a goal mouth scramble Zack managed to turn the ball into the net for a 1-0 win.

Next was the Semi’s where we took on a physical Christ the King, with seconds to go Grace got off a shot which managed to go through the keeper’s legs!  Another 1-0 win!

St Mary’s were now in the final where they would meet The Hill Primary.  All the children were very determined to bring the win home!  The Hill spent most of the game defending.  A scrappy shot from Zack which somehow ended up in the goal which was all we needed and St Mary’s were champions without letting a single goal in!

Well done everyone!
