Year 5 (9-10 year olds) used Peter Thorpe's artwork to inspire our own creations during our space topic.
The class put so much work into them and were so proud that their teacher shared the work with the artist, Peter Thorpe and he responded.
"Thank you so much for sharing your students’ work. It’s really great to see the photos and you have one-uped me in your compositions…they are three dimensional! That’s very cool. I think I may have to do a 3-D rocket too. The splattered and painted backgrounds are very nice as are the planets. But the 3-D rockets rock.
I grew up in the 1960s watching the NASA space missions and the Lunar landings. I loved space exploration so much that I just knew that when I was older I’d live on the Moon. Well, of course that hasn’t happened yet, and my chances are fading, but your students are of an age that it might be possible for them to eventually live in, work in, or even just visit space.
Much is happening around the world with private and public space programs. I envy your students’ age and future possibilities. thanks again for sharing the photos. Nice work!" Peter Thorpe
