Red Nose Day Raises Funds and Spirits

Last Friday, we celebrated Red Nose Day 2019, enjoying a wide range of activities to raise money for Comic Relief. All of the proceeds are used by the charity to support vulnerable people in the UK and all over the world, and we always take great pride in contributing to such a worthy cause.

Since launching the first Red Nose Day in 1985, Comic Relief has raised a staggering amount of money, and in 2015, they passed the £1 billion mark. Although the event is widely celebrated, schools have grown to play a huge part in raising money, and it was with great delight that we have contributed £391 to the growing total, which currently stands at more than £63.5 million.

This year, our pupils wore red, as well as their RND noses, and took part in two competitions — ‘Make Your Teacher Laugh’ and ‘Design a New Red Nose Day Character’. The competition winners receive a RND-branded item, such as a keyring, lanyard, or water bottle. To end the day, we hosted a bake sale, which included an array of delicious treats.

Mrs Shaw, Year 4 Teacher, said: “Children really enjoyed the competitions because it gave them a chance to show off their drawing skills and put their humorous side to good use!”

At St Mary & All Saints C of E Primary School, we believe Red Nose Day is much more than just an opportunity for us to arrange a number of fun and exciting fundraising activities. The event gives us the platform to teach our pupils about the importance of charity, being generous, and supporting and helping others. These lessons will help to develop good habits that last long into their adult life.

Red Nose Day is such a special event because it allows young people to have fun, spend time together, and experience the joy of raising money to help others. It is something we always look forward to, and the excitement has already begun for Sport Relief 2020.
